Desert Highway

Driving through the desert for seemingly endless miles, working our way back east. We stop every couple hours or so, so that the living among us can stretch their legs and breathe. There further we go the windier it gets, so that at our last stop you could actually see thin curtains of sand rising and falling away. The living people don’t like to stand out in it for very long, but I wish that I could feel the grainy air abrading my skin. We wear sunglasses, even at night, when we are outside. Not to look cool but to keep the sand out of our eyes.

I could look out at the desert sky all night and get bored. Sometimes I think that, rather than go on to Washington, that I should just gather up as many zombies as I could and more them all here to the desert, where there isn’t anyone to bother us. We could move into the Grand Canyon. Or maybe Death Valley would be more appropriate. We don’t need to worry about water, and while the wind, sand and sun would most likely take a toll on our skin, it wasn’t like we could feel sunburned. We’re immune to rattlesnake bites, too. We could find the ghost towns of the old west and move right in and create our own town.

The thoughts make me smile, because the idea of being able to get away from everyone that hates us certainly is appealing sometimes. But I know it isn’t the answer, not really. It might be nice to have a secluded corner of the world, but the world will always turn its eyes on you, eventually.

It would be great if zombies established some communities outside of “Normal” society—in the desert, at the poles, under the ocean. For all I know we could colonize the moon—we could go Anywhere we could be safe and free. But only if it was by choice, not because we were forced there or in hiding. Maybe if things go well in Washington we’ll have some of those options.

Those were some of the thoughts I had as we moved sleeplessly through the desert.

Hiya, Tommy. Glad to hear that you had a good time in the desert. Me? I'm okay. My Spanish teacher yelled at me. I'm not really that violent, but I feel like switching roles with her so that she can be dead and I can be alive again. Sounds harsh, huh? Anyways, I hope that you can visit the "Windy City" soon. I'd be really happy to meet you face-to-face. Well, that's all for now. Talk to you later, Tommy!

That's a really good idea. I would love to join you in a ghost town.
Kinda ironic, if you think about it.

It'd be a huge change for me since I'm on the south-east coast.
Can't wait for you to visit me in Georgia!

The desert is a cool place... erm, y'know what I mean.
Although I do hate it when it gets windy and all that sand starts blowing around. Hurts real bad on exposed skin and eyes; I've learned the hard way.
Luckily, there isn't sand where I live, but it's plenty windy here. I don't understand why most of the other girls always try to their hair after PE. It just gets messed up again in two seconds.

I do hope that things go well in Washington! It would be amazing to see our whole community take a step forward (no matter how small) towards supporting DBs.
Good luck and stay safe!

Okay first off all this shit isnt even real its based on a damn book so stop wasting your time on a blog that doesnt even update. And if your the monitor person that is going to delete this instead of post this then you are just as weird as the people that follow this crap.

All things being equal. Hiding the desert may be fun. But all you would be doing is running and giving those that hate what you are all the more excuse to lash out at you.

Stand Strong. Stand out. And make the point.

hey tommy. glad to know at least SOMEONE likes the desert. i havnt been there since i well... died.. i stay in the woods mostly. its not like i can get a license to drive out and hang out with you guys.. as fun as that sounds... no. ive been confined to the wilderness because now my family wants nothing to do with me, saying that i "bring a dark shadow over the brightness of the town" and rather than killing me... ooh i get exile... good thing i have a laptop with portable wifi or i would go insane... well... maybe i already am...

i went to visit my old skater friends. they seem to accept me, though one of them said "i sketched him out" oh well... considering the alternative to being stuck in a box to be worm food, im glad to be undead..

good luck and have fun,
Penguin ^__^

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. Ohh how your thoughts drift. That would be supper cool if ya'll moved to the moon!! But you know what would be a good hypothosis? That oneday when the ice age hits, we will all have become "dead" and survive as the slow, but incredably invincible (in a fight and against nature) race!! Ahh, what a thought. haha. Love you guys!!

ps. if you just so happen to want to go the completely oposite direction you are heading, you can find me and my "dead" friends in Texas!! Mooooo!...

Hey Tommy,
I'm new to the site so I was trying to read as many of the posts as I possibly could. I live in Suffolk, New York. It just started getting warm again and its pretty much only windy when its cold out around here but if the winds worse where you are then where we are then I hope your travels go safe and well. Over where I am we never hear about zombies well atleast I dont think we do so when reading the site it took me to great interest.

ashley

Hi. I think I'm your newest follower. I wanted to comment, so I picked your most recent post... Glad you enjoyed the desert. I would rather live there than in cold Colorado. If I were dead, I suppose I'd enjoy the cold more. Can you feel the cold?

ANYWAY.

Going into unpopulated areas? Sounds like fun to me, but I would have to die first, and I kinda like being a beating heart. But I'm glad that you are still going on to D.C., because you're right, going away isn't the answer. Believe in yourself Tommy, like all of us here believe in you.

Love,
KayKat
