Location, Location, Location

How hostile to the undead is your hometown? Oakvale is almost schizophrenic; on the one hand we have the Hunter Foundation and Oakvale school, two pro-zombie (at least, the seem pro-zombie) institutions, but on the other hand we've got a very strong undercurrent of bioist bias here.

In your town, is the "zombie phenomenon" well known, or (pardon the pun) underground?

Are people generally supportive of the undead, or hostile?

Are the undead generally permitted to be in public places (the mall, the library, the local bowling alley)?

Are the undead allowed to attend school?

I'm interested for a number of reasons. First, to be able to compile a list of areas that are not hospitable to zombies and steer them away from those areas, and second, to have a similar list for zombies needed to relocate.

Ultimately, it would be great to figure out why the pro-zombie areas are that way.

Any ideas or comments, please send them our way.

I have never heard of people talking about our nighborly zombie friends, although I sure wish I had. Even if we did have any living impaired kids in our small town, most people wouldn't be as use to it as the people in Oakvale. They most likely wouldn't be able to go to school with any of us, mainly because some people are little wimps and think your kind is here to rip out our brains and eat them. OHMYGOD! I hate those people!

Were I live we have nothing here like the Hunter Foundation. We really dont have any zombies, living emparied, kids around or adults. Are you able to still be alive as adults? I really love to read what you have to think about society. Really I also look up to you. I mean, I would never have the courage to stand up to some one that whants me gone or dead.

Hey, Tommy. One question. Why don't you get a myspace?

I admire how you aren't afraid to express your opinions this way. There are no living impaired kids in my town. But if there were, I would just hope that maybe someone would be a little like you.

There aren't any zombies around here and I'm not sure if all of the people around here would be that excepting, I'm sad to say. I know that my family, friends, and some neighbors would be ok, but I'm not sure about everyone else.
There were many people here that were 'Yes' on Prop 8 ('Yes' meaning that gay people weren't allowed to get married) I have a feeling that if they can't accept LIVING people, they might not be too fond of zombies.
It's too bad, because I think our school would be willing to let zombies attend. I certainly would befriend them.
I don't think I've even seen anything on the news about zombies...sigh, just know that my family and friends support you guys!

I live in a small town, it is one of the few small towns that the humans kind of know what's going on. There are Zombies, there are vampires, there are even werewolves. Most of the time we werewolves keep our other selves hidden. Zombies are common in this area, the townspeople are kind of uncomfortable with the vampires but they deal. You see werewolves walking around but humans never ask to see their true form. They just act like it's a huge dog. I am a werewolf, but i keep myself hidden like the many other of my breed. If you find me, Zombies are welcome.

We even have a sanctuary like the haunted house, which me and some other mythicals started because of YOU, Tommy. Zombies are welcome in our schools, welcome in all the stores and shops. It's a pretty cool place to be.

I've never seen a zombie. Hm. Well, my town might. Not that zombies would want to live here, since we're a place that gets hit by hurricanes a lot, and I dunno if a zombie would be able to evacuate quickly. No offense, of course, because I love you guys, especially you, Tommy, you rock. :) I just meant that I don't know if, with all the traffic and the flood waters and storm surges, I don't know if it'd be a great place for them, you know, safety wise and all. But if it's safe, I hope some do come down here, and I hope they're safe down here. :)

By the way, you're very, very awesome, Tommy. You and all the other zombies. :D :D :D

Um....wait. This is gonna sound so stupid, but are zombies real? Like, real real? Because I thought this was just a book and stuff, but the last link you had, it was linked to CNN.....

as I have said before my previous home town would destroy me and my other friends if they knew we were here. It is for that reason that i am not able to make our location known. Our only connection to the outside world is this computer and our T.V. we also have connections at the local hospital so we know when there are new zombies. We try to save them but often are not successful. I am trying to relocate some of the zombies that we have here to towns that are zombie-tolerant.

he we dont have any "zombies", but if we do i dont see them around, we have a really low death count here, as in besides of dying of old age. so i have bot seen any living imparied. my town is also not too accepting of the liveing as paris said, so i dont think they would be to accpeting of the non. im very sad that i had to say that. but i would be more than will to help anyone heartbeat or not. =)it seems small towns are less likely to change than bigger towns.

The way I see it "Zombies," are humans just a little diffrent...they talk, walk, sing, dance, they can do everything "alive" humans can do, just diffrently. Not allowing Diffrently biotic people to do some of the things everyone else can do is like no letting a paying customer buy somthing because his eyes are green and not blue or brown. Not one is alike. Every one is diffrent, just like the living impaired. Its not right. They are citizens, they may not have social security, but i consider a citizen someone who is involved and lives in the comunity not someone who shows up in the government deta base as alive. The Zombies are scared and I would be too, Im just glad you (tommy) tried to prove your point that zombies can do what everyone else can do. Standing up is brave..but not always smart, but in your case i would have done the exact thing. I would never be able to prove that big of a point and stand up to people who literaly will kill me. You are a great leader of the dif biotic people :)

Yeah it is pretty awesome. I just might come down and visit you guys in Oakvale. Though i don't know if some of the...oakvalers (oakvalians? the people in oakvale) could stand a werewolf coming to visit. Wouldn't that be a show.

P.S. If you have any zombies in need of a place to crash, send them my way.

I cried when I read generation dead and heard what everyone does to you. I wish I could meet you and the dudes that hurt your friends and you. If I could they would be a zombie with you because I would have killed them. They have no right to do things like that and they should know that. You are a zombie and no matter how hard they try they can't try that. Oh and tell tham that madiSON said have an unvampirelicious day. (NOt to be mean and all) Sorry I have anger issues so when someone hurts my friends or someone that is cool I get SUPER mad.

Vampire_on_the_loose said...

I cry when I think of the good things in life but when the bad things seep through those stupid, broken cracks they seem to just fade instintly. They evaporate. But than they seep right back through over and over and it's to much, i'm overwhelmed, and can't get to all of those moments and soak them up to nothing. Than I'm flooded in bad memories and the bad things in life. I hear everything terrible and I can't get out. But finally I found a way to get out and to breathe. So like in the real world I found a way to breathe and I realized that no matter who or what I am I am me and you can't change who and what I am just as much as I can. You just can't.

Well, no zombies that I am aware of around here. I would like to think that the Bay Area, CA would be pretty accepting. Either way I have a spare room! :)

In my town, there is a Zombie or two. Most of the town is fine with them, the other few... not so much. Nothing bad has happened. The people who 'disapprove' keep their thoughts to themselves, so this is a great place to relocate. My best friend's older sister (who is practically my sister) died, and came back. Everyone treated her as if she were alive, she acts like she is. Its so refreshing to see how well they treat her. She has all the rights of normal citizens as well. I love it here!

Your welcome to stay in our town, Charleston, S.C. anytime you want!! Everyone will love to meet some new zombies! Here, we don't call them living impaired or differently biotic, we call them Zombies. Since no one calls them that in a disrespectful way, they don't mind at all! Your always welcome here in Charleston if you ever need any extra space. Btw I request: Would you tell Faith I said hi!

i live in Nebraska. They arent the worst. as in i can go in the mall but people just give me this look that makes me feel like scum. were allowed to go to school but most zombies just dont go because of all the looks and hurtful thing people put on our lockers and everything else. they prefer we dont go in the cafe though.

Hey, LiViNgDeAd97! I live near the Charleston area as well. I haven't seen any zombies around, or so I think.. There's one boy at my school who reminds me SO much of Evan.. He has the untamed firey hair, the hitch in his step and an odd tone and slowness to his voice, along with awkward expressions. Though, I know Evan isn't supposed to be around anymore.. :[ But I do hope to see more zombies around, it'd be nice to meet them. I wonder if this post is so old no one will see it.. I just finished Generation Dead and started reading up on Tommy's blogs.

I was wondering...where are all of the differently biotic and all of the other biotics at? Where do they live? Becasue they don't live hear. or anywhere that i've lived at....I move ever year in search for them...and it feels like i've given up, though i havn't. If anyone knows (including Tommy) Please help. And where is Okvale at? I think...the book said *new england? or england?* If anyone knows...please tell me what states and town that has the boitics in.

Tamsin Try said...

I can't really help with this. I live in England, so I haven't seen any zombies around at all. I live in quite a multicultural area though, so I think people would be quite accepting of the differently biotic.

Where I live its not discriminated against. My town is a weird one. Were almost all related somehow and everyone protects one another. Especially downtown, where I live. When I died four years, my mother didn't accept me right away but my cousin's did. I lived with them for a year, up the street from my house. My mother eventually got used to it and accepted me back in. My friends still love me and one of them is teaching me guitar and how to drive!

It's radiation, that's why people are nice to zombies... yeah, sun radiation. Heh heh heh. Joking but the Rev. would probably have a hay day with that statement and get people to use sunscreen.

If we had any Zombies in my town or school, I'm not sure how they would go about it. All the kids in my school are already pretty prejudice to people like the really smart people or the goths(like me) so i don't think my town could handle Zombies or DB people. Too bad, i would really want to meet a zombie.

Only problem with having Zombies in my hometown? I live in England.
So that means I wouldn't come back if I died.

Chicago was already pretty diverse before the whole DB thing, and it still is now. For DB people, it really just depends on what part you go to. The area where I live is pretty zombie-friendly, but some of the surrounding areas aren't. It's really hit-or-miss for where you go.

Small town Virgina known as Poquoson.
Underground, I only became aware of the zobie nation after reading generatin dead (which I'm sorry to say I found at a thrift shop, but borowed the others from the library)
No undead here that I can see so their not allowed at the mall and such.
There aren't any DB kids at my school (we've got demons, angels, reapers, vampires, and cheerleaders (I don't consiter cheerleaders to be human, they are the spawn of satin, not DB))
And my small town (okay, really small city).would most likely be hostial, but not me cause I love DB people.
So yeah....not the best place to come but if you do my door is open to you at all hours...even Popeye and Tak.
