Names Will Never Hurt Us

Don’t know what to call your undead neighbor? Not satisfied with any of the following charming and colorful terms: deadhead, corpsicle, worm burger, worm bait, shambler, ole stinky, smelly, hellspawn, pokey, rotter, deadsy, Mr. Squishy, old meat, cold meat, maggot brain, oozer, Scary Mary, Raggy Anne, flaky, Rigor Morty, Frankenstein, stiff, graymeat, carcass, necro, necrophiliac, ubergoth, graver, deader, decomposer?

None of those suit you? Well, how about Cadaver Vivens, which is the suggested new genus/species name for zombiekind. Translated literally, it means “living corpse”.

Yay.

Would anyone else like to contribute a suggestion? Or is everyone happy with "zombie"?

Mr. Squishy? I'm totally having a moment where the scene from Finding Nemo is playing in my head. "I shall call him squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my squishy"

Tommy Williams said...

It is my belief that everyone should have a squishy

oOMermaidBubblesOo said...

oo wow i so want my own squishy rite now lol

Anonymous said...

hmm... why not just by their real and legal name!! for example call Tommy, "Tommy"! i think that is the best thing. or at least call them by their name to their face!

Tommy Williams said...

Now there's a novelty, Lizzie, actually calling people by their real names and not some nickname meant to hurt and harass. Good idea, I like it.

I agree with Lizzie,
and now i want a squishy.

I like "revisionary revenants" along with the Children of Ishtar. Here's a quote about the second, stolen straight off of wikipedia (which has incidentally stolen its info from everyone else):

"The Epic of Gilgamesh of ancient Sumer includes a mention of zombies. Ishtar, in the fury of vengeance says:

Father give me the Bull of Heaven,
So he can kill Gilgamesh in his dwelling.
If you do not give me the Bull of Heaven,
I will knock down the Gates of the Netherworld,
I will smash the doorposts, and leave the doors flat down,
and will let the dead go up to eat the living!
And the dead will outnumber the living!"

huh, i kinda like the ubergoth one! i think i might just use that on a couple of my undead friends! Ha! That was a joke, get it? Cuz i dont have any undead friends?....ok nevermind.

Tommy Williams said...

Love the quote, Thisbe_Open_your_eyes, but I'm not so sure about "going up to eat the living". Sounds like typical anti-undead propoganda to me.

i never got that little poem adults always tell u in 1st grade "sticks an stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me" i always wondered if they were insinuating that children were going to thro sticks an stones at me to break my bones... that was proly the beginning of mi irrational fear of people...i think i would rather hang out with differently biotic/zombie kids than beating hearts/living kids seeing as they would be less likely to talk much...

Anonymous said...

Yeah...whenever i used to use that rhyme....let's just say i had a lot of bruises when i was in fourth grade. Anyway, those seem like really hurtful words and i'm sorry if anyone calls you that Tommy

Britt said...

i agree with having a squishy and everyone being called their rightful name. even if you came back to life its some way of living so people like the "blood bags" need to accept it

xoxo,

I think that the saying that the first thing i learned in kindergarten where were shown a picture of two apples and an orange and told to pick out the one that doesnt belong. the first thing that were taught is that being different is wrong. i think that goes really well with the DB kids because theyre different and people dont like different.wich is wrong.

i think that zombielover<3 wrote that relly good. i totally agree with you!

I rather like Mr. Squishy, but I would rather be called Biotically Challenged.

Huh.

Anonymous said...

WHOA!!! ACTUALLY CALLING PPL BY THEIR NAMES?! now THAT is weird. and I want a sqishy! may i PLEASE have a squishy??

Anonymous said...

Whats up with the mr. squishy motif?? haha

Josie said...

Recycled humans? Rehumans? Repeople? Wait that last one sounds a bit like "retarded" might be involved.

I do like "zombie"; it's got a nice, classic feel. Plus the "z" makes it sound extra cool. We don't have enough words with "z"s in 'em.

A fly breeding ground.

Luna said...

I think that zombie is the classic name, though overused, tis a classic. The name thing is good if your not close to the differently biotic kid. if your close to them, then they probably won't mind if you call them "zombies". i have my own squishy and i have a panda named racoon.

GreenWitchEV said...

How about this?
zombie+people=zeople. They're still people, but the "z" makes them sould cooler.

wow.... ya Zombie works for me... your pretty amazing tommy

mr squishy? wow, who was the idiot who came up with that one? pete?

living_impaired said...

3 things!!!

1. I want a squishy!
2. Caling them by teir real names is nice, but I wouldn't do it. In fact, am a trad, who walks around and calls other trads simply "humans" or "mortals"
3. Have you considered
"The Reborn" as a nickname?

g.deadcatluver said...

I like zombie, or just plain dead or undead.

Becca the Rainbow Monster said...

hmmm.... how bout human? That where we all started, right? dead, undead, living, dieing, those that are still in the woumb. All still human, or has that changed?

Anonymous said...

"zombies" implies you eat brains. reanimated sounds better, i guess.

Hyphier said...

What?! But, but, but...My friends call me Squishy....AND Pokey..... Hm.

I still like differently biotic the best.

EmmBearr said...

I agree with Lizzie...I mean come on! just cuz someone is different you need to call them by hurtful names...i've had friends in situations like this before...not exactly like this, but you get what i mean...and i get called band geek all the time...and depending who it's comming from it can be really hurtful...all the sterio types and all the hurtful comments...its not fun...i think that what you're doing Tommy is cool and brave...it definatly inspired me to do some more about stuff like this :) Keep it up

xoxo Emily :)

personally i like Mr. Squishy :D honestly i have no CLUE how that would be considered a 'nickname' for a zombie, but if i were a zombie myself i would tell people "It's Mrs.Squishy to you!" sense i am a girl :] but Zombie would be fine too :]]

I so want a Squishy... :) Just started following your blog, so I'm catching up on past posts.
I'm fine with Zombie. :) Some people seem to find it insulting, but I think it just shows we don't care what they(the evil beatings hearts) think, and they're views are just stupid and narrow minded.
I think we should have different names for good beating hearts and evil ones. :) But I can't think of a good idea.
I'm thinking of starting a blog about my undead life-do you think I should?

second chances said...

haha mr squishy i have a cat (well he is my neighbours cat but oh well ) called sir squishems he isnt mine he just visits me and eats my socks

second chances said...

i actully think beating hearts is a good term for the living. my trad sister doesnt find it offensive like i dont find mr squishy offensive why cant we just use r actull names

kattlyn sed that beating hearts sounds romantic ( she is such a twat! luv her though)

MR SQUISHY MR SQUISHY!!!!!!!!!
Either that or call them by their REAL NAMES I mean really, call DB kids by their real names, not zombie, or dead head, or whatever.
I think that zombies are cool, and that kids should not think of thyem as different, but as special, or weird (me and my friends take weird as a compliment)
So, real names, zombie, (unless the person doesnt like it of course,)or, MR SQUISHY. I shall call him squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my squishy!
Dory's quote fron finding nemo. My squshy, i want a squishy

Although I do agree (with one of the first posters) that calling one by their name is rather proper, and the nice thing to do.
I think it can't hurt to be called something such *as* 'zombie' for how much power does an insult *really* have if it is (deemed to be) obviously true?
I mean, "oh wow, I'm a zombie and you called me a 'zombie'. Big Whoop!"

I like the term reanimated. It's refined.
But if someone I know were to be reanimated, I would still call them by their given name and treat them with all the same respect and dignity I gave them when they were still traditionally biotic.

**Kourtney Sterling** said...

I really love reanimated and The Reborn as a general name for all of the differently biotic. but of course I would call them by their names! but for the whole DB communityt, I like those two names.

And I absolutely love the DBs. I know they must go through a lot of crap and I feel for them, if I could I would take all of their pain and frustration from them and put it apon myself for a while so they can have some fun.

Love 2 all,

Check out My So Called "Life", I started writing about my experiences as a walking corpsecicle after reading your books. I hope you enjoy! I honestly don't care about the names, cause even when I was alive everybody thought I was a freak, so I'm pretty much used to it. Besides, I kinda get where they're coming from. And I'm stuck as a teen. Oh, joy. 16 sucks.

candycanebabe said...

Omg I love that movie

U wrote this entry on the day after my bray hays love u and if I met a zombie I would call them best friends :D

Zombie, classic really. But still going with differently bionic or living inpaired.
And Mr. Sqishy? Really? Let me guess Pete M. came up with that. But I say let the zombies be called what they wish. And calling them by their given names, novel idea. Normal and simple, love it.
Btw I'm a trad, not that I'm on Pete's side (aka the dark side). And the dark side lied about having cookies, forwarning.

Totally absurd question but how would you feel if pheobe died but did not come back? Sorry to put he thought into your head.

I have a question..... What kind Of effect of
Being dead damages the way you communic

Tell me is this is nuts, but why can't we call them by their given names. And if adressing a group, call them people.
