Pardonnez-Moi

A few weeks ago in my blog about zombie creation theory ( Stupid Theory of the Day, here). I made a comment about eating microwaved brains. Based on the amount of email I received, and the amount of hassle I received from friend and foe alike, I thought I should write.

I apologize if the “brains” comment offended you. It was just a joke. Yes, I realize that it could be interpreted as perpetuating a negative zombie stereotype. Oh excuuuuse me, a negative living impaired stereotype. I did not mean to offend anyone, least of all my fellow undead brothers and sisters. Well, maybe I did mean to offend someone, namely the “scientists” that seem to be more interested in getting money and publicity than they do in actually helping undead Americans.

But really, people—I think we need to work on developing our sense of humor as much as we work on trying to learn how to talk and walk again. I know what we all go through on a daily basis just trying to exist in a country that for the most part wishes we would just stay dead. I fear that if we lose our sense of humor about our condition, it is only a matter of time before the rest of the country gets their wish.

Giggling is a sign of good humor and intelligence--or total lunacy.

Are you a zombie?

Samantha said...

no, im not.
but honestly i find it amazing how you could joke so openly about the fact that you are.
and i also think you have a wonderful sense of humor :]

microwaved brains, classic! That's just totally believable! Your sense of humor, is morbid, yet hilarious! and you shouldn't apologize for offending people about your personal humor, these are your thoughts, its an agreement or disagree, and if people don't like what you think, they can go away... OH! And by the way, how is Adam Layman ;)

i previously read the Stupid Theory Of The Day blog and I found that the microwaved brains crack was actually funny. I don't see why people should be insulted. You zombies don't even eat, do you? And microwaved brains would be revolting anyway. It was quite obviously a joke and nobody should have look at it from an offensive point of view.

:]

Made me laugh when I read it. :) What's wrong with joking about the undead situation? I think we should joke about it-it shows that we're not above good jokes just because we're 'undead'.

In one of your comments you posted

'Without humor we are lost'

And for the most part that is very much true, for without humor, all one can turn to is depression. And to give into that depression means to give up all hope. One's will to live is helped by humor. For even those scientists who have no real wish to help you, have a sense of humor.

As for the 'brains' comment/joke. It can sometime be fun to play into a stereotype. I mean, I can't tell you how many "racist" jokes I laugh at, but it's not because I'm "racist" it's because the joke is funny.

-Blaine M.I.

P.S. It bothers me how some people get so pissed off when you tell a black joke (or something else playing on one's stereotype) and a black person gets mad at you for either telling it or laughing at it, when it is somewhat clear you aren't "against" their "kind".

Did some living impaired really comment on a joke like such. You'd think there trads, lack of a secence of humor. Come on I'm a trad, my best friend is a demon (not a zombie, a demon, horns and everything). Yeah, come on people lauph when you can, or at least zombie lauph. (And yes that was a joke)
